A little more professional news...
An announcement
I’m excited to share this news with you. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has invited me to co-present, from next year, Radio National’s Global Roaming program, which focuses on Australia’s place in the world.
I am super honoured to have been asked to co-present what is one of the ABC’s flagship programs. Keen readers of What I’m Reading will remember I joined program hosts Geraldine Doogue and Hamish Macdonald earlier this year to discuss Australia’s role in the changing global order following the election of the Trump Administration.
Global Roaming has been a twice-weekly program, but is now expanding to Monday to Friday. Alongside my role as The Nightly’s Writer-at-Large, I will co-present two episodes per week. The ABC’s press release announcing the news is here.
As I told the ABC: ‘The world order is changing before our eyes and understanding Australia’s place in this turmoil has never been more important.’
‘Radio National’s expansion of its already unmissable Global Roaming program is much-needed for our times and as The Nightly’s Writer-at-Large based in London, I’m excited and honoured to contribute to helping make sense of our rapidly shifting global order.’
I grew up watching Geraldine Doogue, so to see my name alongside hers is truly pinch-myself stuff.
Some professional news...
I have some news to share with you, so please forgive my indulgence as I am super excited and very honoured to announce that I have joined the Australian National University’s National Security College as an Expert Associate this year in addition to regular work as Writer-at-Large at The Nightly and of course, my work here at
I’ll be sure to link episodes that I co-present in my weekly reading updates. I hope you’ll enjoy listening.

Just to add I think you're very well positioned for this role. My impression (which may be off beam) is that Australia knows and is reasonably comfortable with it's global positioning. But the UK clings to a view based on hundreds of years of Empire and that of a former global power. Like many Aussie's I think this ended with the fall of Singapore in 1942.
